A Busy Month for Southern Nevada Gardeners

Hello fellow members of the Cactus and Succulent Society of Southern Nevada. The next 37 days will be very busy for those of us who love the spring flower display in the desert. There are many events happening that you can participate. There will be evetns at CSN Charleston and Henderson, the Springs Preserve, Plant World, and the state and national preserves to name a few. So get out there and enjoy.

If there are any events or flower displays you would like to make  the group aware of please let us know at Rick Holmes' pot luck the first Saturday of April.

Activity Schedule

Here are the activities, events, and plant sales for March-April 2010.

  1. Spring in the Desert at CSN now through the end of May. This will be the last sale for the desert nursery. They are located on West Charleston Blvd in Las Vegas between Jones and Torrey Pines.
  2. Springs Preserve Plant Sale. One day only, March 27 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

  4. April Pot Luck: Rick Holmes has invited the club members to a pot luck at his house. I've been told the landscape is fantastic. The tentative date will be April 3, 2010. Rick will send invitations containing directions. The pot luck event will replace the regular meeting on the first Thursday of April.
  5. The Conservation District of Southern Nevada is having two Spring Plant Sales on March 20th and April 17th from 8 AM - - 12 PM at Acacia Demonstration Gardens in Henderson. All plants have been grown by CSN students and are drought tolerant to promote water conservation.  We will have a wonderful selection of hummingbird and butterfly attractors, desert tortoise food plants and of course native varieties.  Visit their website for a plant list of this year's available inventory. CSN Nursery staff and Master Gardner's will be available to answer any planting questions and the following classes are also being offered free of charge in the gardens during the March 20th plant sale: Sprinkler Clock Demonstration by City of Henderson, Desert Gardening & Plant Care by Master Gardeners, & Backyard Wildlife Habitat by CDSN.
